An etched brass, white metal and lost wax brass kit requiring wheels (Slaters 7120 or equivalent), couplings, paint and lettering to complete.
There are a large numver of lost wax castings for the door frames of the bicycle compartment which has made this kit more expensive to produce. It does however produce and unusual and very detailed prototype.
The GNS introduced two of these vans in the early years of the 20th century, to cater for the growing hobby of cycling, especially in the beautiful country areas it served. They were converted from 4 wheel carriage stock, and consisted of 28 separate compartments, each with a small drop down door, with a black panel upon which the name of the cycle owner was written. Unfortunately, they were not a success, the time needed to load the upper level at stations being unacceptably long and it was found that ordinary brake carriages could do the job with much more ease, both operationally and practically.
They were out of service by 1909, but the exact date of scrapping is unknown.
Lively was GNS maroon, with the lettering ‘BICYCLE VAN’ written across the upper doors, one letter per panel.
